Description
THE CAINE MUTINY
French Grande (47" x 63"); Style A
Very Fine- Folded
Columbia, 1954
The striking French Grande offered here, with artwork by Guy Gerard Noel, highlights a scene during a typhoon, in which Queeg orders the ship to reverse course into the wind to take on ballast, the action that finally leads Maryk to relieve the captain of command. This is a beautiful piece, with unique artwork not seen in any other format.
This folded poster has some fold and edge wear but no pieces are missing and it is in very presentable shape.
Herman Wouk's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel comes to thrilling life on the screen in this 1954 film, starring Humphrey Bogart as Captain Phillip Queeg. A tense drama about the mentally unbalanced captain of a mine sweeper during World War II, it follows the deterioration of Queeg's mental state and the efforts of his executive staff to relieve him of command. These efforts eventually led to a court martial. Although Wouk's novel portrays Captain Queeg as clearly insane, the U.S. Navy was uncomfortable with this characterization in the film, so his condition in the movie is attributed to "battle fatigue" instead.
This lot will be auctioned on Friday, December 8th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 7th.
