Description
Pre-Columbian, Maya Territories, Classic Period, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A splendid pottery tripod dish presenting a shallow basin and 3 petite feet, hand-painted with the image of a seated figure in the central tondo. Shown in profile, the figure wears a long, plumed headdress and a loincloth while holding out both hands in front of him as though giving an offering. The figure is surrounded by a band of abstract, undulating striations that envelops the interior wall, while the exterior is left bare. Size: 10.4" Diameter x 2.6" H (26.4 cm x 6.6 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Dunn collection, Ferndale, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2004

Professionally repaired and restored with repainting over some break lines and others visible. A few minor chips as well as some nicks and abrasions, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, nice presentation with good remaining pigments.
