Lot 49: Karl Lagerfeld | 90s Black Skirt Suit

A Karl Lagerfeld black skirt suit from the 1990s comprised of a tailored blazer and a fitted pencil skirt. 

The suit features a fitted jacket with a wide fold-over pointed collar with outlined cups at the bust and a tailored bodice. The skirt features a high-waist line that fits tightly around the hips and then tapers in at the hem, which hits above the knee. Both garments have a Lagerfeld, Made in France, label present. The jacket is marked a size 40, the skirt is marked a size 42. 

Lagerfeld was known for reinventing iconic suits, especially the tweed skirt suit at Chanel in the 90s, where he made the shapeless ensemble streamlined with a cinched waistline. Even for his label he took the power suit and tailored it to emphasize as well as enhance a woman's shape similar to Mugler, Claude Montana, and Versace. He along with designers like Donna Karan, Moschino, Jil Sander, and Richard Tyler created the 90s power suit.
