Description

Details:

Peter Wolf hand-written manuscript and '16' magazine questionnaire from the J. Geils Band frontman.

Three items relating to Peter Wolf, former lead vocalist of the J. Geils Band, including: a black ink signature and inscription, “To Mr. G., to you from me, Wolf,” with added self-portrait sketch on an off-white 4 x 6 card, with reverse featuring pencil notations in Wolf’s hand.

An unsigned six-page manuscript written in pencil by Wolf in his difficult-to-decipher hand, 8 x 12.5, with first sheet headed “Whose Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf.” Each sheet contains a stream-of-conscious style of writing that could be interpreted as lyrics, poetry, or Wolf simply placing his thoughts on paper. Examples include: “Day starts at twilight. TV without sound. I lie back & create…Then I call the telephone to make sure the exact time & then I call back,” “There’s something there that you don’t know what it is—& that’s what you want,” “I don’t believe in changing a word, I believe in a certain style,” and “In the final analysis life is a brutal thing—we keep rationalizing out of it—this brutality.”

A stapled 12-page packet for “16’s All Star Fact Sheet,” dated January 8, 1974, 8.5 x 11, filled out entirely in the hand of Wolf, who signs his name twice to an opening biography page, “Peter D. Wolf” and “Peter Wolf,” and then again at the top of the succeeding page, which begins a “Master Questionnaire” containing roughly 72 questions, of which Wolf answers a total of 40. The bio page, which Wolf begins to fill out in pencil before switching to black ink, asks a variety of questions, such as his nickname (“Stuff—bequeathed by attractive young lady”), birthdate and place (“March 7, 1943, Bronx, N.Y.”), hobbies (“Playing with toys”), and favorite actors and actresses (“James Dean, Lawrence Olivier, Marlene Dietrich, Too many to name!”); Wolf notably writes and then strikes through “Faye Dunaway,” who Wolf married that very year. Some of the highlights from the “Master Questionnaire” include: “Would you like to get married? ‘No plans in future—not thinking of marriage,’” “What was the biggest thrill of your life? ‘Recognized by maitre d at Stage Deli,’” and “What is the most serious problem you’ve had to solve? ‘My face.’”

In overall fine condition.
