Description
This petite shabti, crafted from faience with a turquoise hue, is a relic from Egypt's Third Intermediate Period, a time of political fragmentation but also cultural fluorescence. Shabtis were funerary figurines placed in tombs among the grave goods, intended to serve the deceased in the afterlife according to ancient Egyptian belief. Despite its modest size, the detailed features, such as the tool marks and the faint remnants of inscriptions, hint at the shabti’s intended role as a servant for eternity. The erosion and wear of this piece suggest long interment and the potential for ritual use before burial. Such artifacts are a connection to the complex funerary practices and beliefs about the afterlife that were central to Egyptian civilization.
