Description
This exquisitely crafted glazed steatite amulet represents Anubis, the jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion. Lying down on a rectangular base, this figure encapsulates Anubis in his role as the protector of graves. The amulet's fine detailing suggests it was an object of personal piety, likely carried by its owner for protection in both life and death. The glaze, now with the patina of age, would have gleamed with a resemblance to eternal skies, symbolizing the god's dominion over the afterlife. Anubis was revered for his fairness in judgment, guiding the souls of the deceased to the afterlife, which makes this amulet a significant emblem of ancient Egyptian cosmology.
