Description
Stanley (Thomas) Poems, first edition, first issue, bound out of order and with title to the second issue bound in at start (repaired at inner margin and with small hole, no text loss), a few headlines shaved, some marking and correction to text in red pencil, mainly near start, foxing, marginal water-staining towards end, front free endpaper with short tear and later ink note, handsomely bound in plum morocco by Hodgson of Liverpool, gilt, spine and corners rubbed, [Pforzheimer 986; Wing S5241], 8vo, [by Roger Norton], 1651. *** This copy contains at the beginning the second issue title (for Humphrey Moseley, 1652). Signatures (a)-(e)8, (f)4 (comprising the first issue title, dedication and Poems), are bound at the end. These are followed by 1650 Aurora Ismenia and the Prince, bound without Sig. H the Oronta (as usual, see Pforzheimer 985). Provenance: Earl of Derby (engraved bookplate).
