Description
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND DECORATED STONEWARE PITCHER, salt-glazed, approximately half-gallon capacity, ovoid body with single-incised neck ring, applied strap handle, and beaded foot. Bold brushed cobalt double-stem flower with double-blooms and leaves, two horizontal tri-leaf ornament to each side of neck, additional cobalt surrounding handle terminals, and an incised five-point star below top handle terminal. Possibly Augustus Parr (c.1827-1890), Baltimore, MD. Circa 1870. 8 1/4" H, 4 3/8" D rim, 5" D base.
Catalogue Note: Augustus Parr was born in Maryland about 1827. He was purportedly raised by potter David Parr, Jr. A 25-year-old Augustus was listed as a "potter" residing in Baltimore in the 1850 census. Ten years later, he had relocated to Jersey City, NJ, his occupation now reported as a "crucible maker". In 1870, Augustus was still residing in Jersey City but was once again recorded as being in the pottery business. Ten years later, Augustus had moved back to Baltimore and remained in the pottery industry. His son Harry, age 17, living in the same household was also listed as a "potter". The Baltimore Sun newspaper reported on May 20, 1890, that Augustus Parr Sr. passed away at his home at the age of 64.

Condition
Excellent visual condition having a faint rim hairline and some areas of professional restoration including area on rim and touch-up to a curved hairline extending from base and up front lower-half.
