Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Southeastern Turkey, Luristan culture, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE; Native American, Eastern to Midwestern United States, Eastern Woodlands, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. An interesting study group of 2 chopping tools from 2 distinctly different cultures. First is a Luristan cast-bronze axe head with a drooping blade, a sturdy neck, and a cylindrical socketing shaft for attaching to a wooden pole. Next is a hand-carved Eastern Woodlands stone celt with a petaloid body, convex faces, a sharpened blade edge, and a conical butt end. Size (celt): 6.4" L x 2.125" W (16.3 cm x 5.4 cm); (axe head): 3.875" L x 1.1" W x 2.2" H (9.8 cm x 2.8 cm x 5.6 cm)

Condition
Axe head has small nicks, light abrasions, chipping and minor indentations to blade head commensurate with use, and nice patina. Stone celt is intact and excellent with nice surface smoothness.
