Native American, Midwestern / Northeastern United States, Woodland period, Intrusive Mound Culture, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A collection of 4 petite chert stone projectile points with corner notches and triangular blades. The types are known as the Intrusive Mound and Jacks Reek Corner Notch, which date to post Hopewellian cultures. Archaeologists have referred to later Woodland people as the "Intrusive Mound Culture," and researchers have a limited understanding of their practices, but it is believed that they made use of existing Hopewell and Adena mounds for burial. These 4 points are likely made by this culture for interment, and although the name "Intrusive" has the connotation of trespassing or unwelcome intent, these people were descended from the earlier mound builders and were reusing the older mounds to continue the tradition or simply showing reverence for their ancestors.
