Western Europe, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. This is a well-preserved steel bayonet with an integral socket for mounting on a rifle. The blade is lengthy with a cruciform profile: a flat face, fluted sides, and a prominent midrib running the length one the underside. The socket has a broad diameter to fit over the gun's muzzle and a mortise slot to fit securely in place. A faint mark on the ricasso might be a maker or inspection mark for this weapon. Bayonets with triangular cross-sections became popular in the 18th century, the wounds created by the blades were harder to treat. After WWI the use of bayonets quickly declined, the close quarters of trench warfare and hand to hand stealth style of combat made bayonets more impractical than useful.
