A Pre-Columbian Vera Cruz red clay figure of an 'Elite', the male figure wearing an elaborate headress, seated on a bench, black staining to body and base 9"h x 5.25"w x 3.5"d. Provenance: David Cole was an influential dealer of California avant garde art during the 1950s and 1960s with a gallery in San Francisco and Los Angeles. He worked closely with Lee Mullican and Gordon Onslow-Ford, Dynaton artists, who were both drawn to the imagery and mythology of the Pre-Columbian peoples of Central and South America
