Description
Dimensions: Length: 11.2 cm, Width: 11.2 cm, Height: 28 cm
Pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Wucai Cockerel Porcelain Large Bottle Lidded Vases. Potted into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, flaring ring mouth rim with dome lid finial bud, raised on round foot base, with slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base color which contrast against blue fine color, depicted of standing cockerel surrounded with flowers bloom. The cockerel or rooster is an honored creature in China. It is one of the twelve animals forming the Chinese zodiac. Out of reverence, the cockerel in contrast to hens, was not killed for meat. Cockerels are valued for working hard to eat up insect pests. They are seen as fierce-some, wise, courageous, benevolent and loyal. It is lucky because it sounds the same as auspicious, lucky. A picture of a cock crowing symbolizes achievement.
