Description
AN AFRICAN PAINTED WOOD MASK ON STAND, BAMILEKE, CAMEROON, 20TH CENTURY, black painted and carved wood with a dual crested twisted fiber hairdo, a ridged forehead, wide saucer eyes, a strong nose, and perpendicular ears with a smiling expression over a twisted natural fiber beard. Height: 36" Width: 11" Depth: 9" Provenence: Estate of Robert William Guynn.
Other Notes: A Kom mask, this type of mask was worn atop the head, like a hat. The dancer would wear a costume covering their head and the remainder of the body. The mask was part of the masks danced at funerary processions.
