Description
Ancient Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd century BCE. A tall, slender, and dignified alabastron that is hand-carved from alabaster of white and light yellow hues. The elongated vessel features a rounded base, twin lug handles, a tapered neck, and a discoid rim surrounding a petite mouth. Vessels like this were commissioned by aristocratic Greek women in order to use as a storage container for scented oils or perfumes during bathing. Size: 1.8" W x 7.75" H (4.6 cm x 19.7 cm); 8.4" H (21.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Harry Wallace collection, acquired in the 1990s, thence by descent to D.B., New Paltz, New York, USA

Condition
Repair at neck and atop rim, with small area of restoration around rim exterior, and with light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and light pitting, with light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to form given the size.
