Egyptian Turquoise Glazed Faience Shabti, c. 4th-3rd Century B.C.
Bright turquoise and thickly glazed faience shabti with superb surface and details.The primary function of shabtis was to act as labourers for the deceased in the Field of Reeds, a heavenly paradise where the deceased continued their existence. It was believed that the deceased would be called upon to perform various tasks in the afterlife and the shabtis would serve as substitutes to carry out these responsibilities on their behalf.
