15th of July, 1845. A letter written by the important Kentuckly statesman Henry Clay to a Mr. J. Frederick Simmons from his estate, Ashland. Clay is offering thanks for Simmons request to be his private secretary, but mentions that his son Henry Clay Jr. is in better health, and that his responsibilities are diminished, therefore he has no need. Sheet size 9.75" x 8".
