WEBSTER, Daniel (1782-1852), represented New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the US Congress, 14th and 19th US Secretary of State. Autograph letter signed ("Danl. Webster"), to A. Langdon Elwyn, Esq. Marshfield [MA], 4 October 1846. 2 pages, 4 1/2 x 7 in., old folds. Webster responds to Mr. Elwyn, indicating that they will discuss matters when they meet in Philadelphia. Accompanied by envelope with free frank, inscribed "Danl. Webster US Senate," and addressed to A. Langdon Elwyn Esq., Philadelphia (staining to cover).
[With:] TANEY, Roger B. (1777-1864), fifth chief justice of the United States. Autograph letter signed ("R.B. Taney"), to Robert P. Dunlap Esq. Washington, 30 March 1832. 1 page, 8 x 10 in., bifolium, old folds, some soiling near folds, tape repairs to several areas of separation, loss to edge of integral leaf. Taney confirms receipt of a check for $137. Integral leaf with free frank, inscribed "Free R.B. Taney," with Washington City postmark, addressed to Robert P. Dunlap Esquire.
[Also with:] CLAY, Henry (1777-1852), represented Kentucky in both the US Senate and House of Representatives, seventh House speaker, ninth secretary of state. Autograph letter signed ("H. Clay"), to Mr. Edwards. Washington, 6 May 1850. 1 page, 8 x 10 in., bifolium, old folds, light creasing, loss to edge of integral leaf. Clay requests an answer to an enclosed letter. Integral leaf free frank, inscribed "Free H. Clay," and addressed to Mr. Edwards, Pension Office, Washington.Together, 3 letters.
