Native American, Northwestern United States, Columbia River Plateau region, Nez Perce, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A cornhusk bag finely woven or twined from hemp, cotton, and yarn and deer hide drawstring. The natural and dyed cornhusks are false embroidered over the surface and embellished with brightly colored yarn into geometric patterns. Bags woven from cornhusk and native hemp were sought after trade items in the Plateau trade network, and as time went on, these bags were created more ornately using many materials but still retaining brightly colored embroidery made from cornhusk. Size: 9" L x 8" W (22.9 cm x 20.3 cm)
