Ex libris ‘Feodorovna’ inciso in rame, incollato sui contropiatti. Occasionale foxing, lievi tracce d’uso, buona conservazione. Edizione Renouard dell’opera completa di Voltaire, riccamente figurata. Esemplare appartenuto all’ultima Imperatrice della Russia, Alexandra Feodorovna. L’ex-libris, sormontato da una corona con sotto le iniziali AL, reca in un nastro il motto «naught but the highest shall content my soul» e in un altro nastro il nome « Féodorovna ». Sotto l’’immagine le iniziali dell’incisore W.P.B. (William Phillips Barrett) e la data 1904.Alexandra Feodorovna, 1872-1918, principessa del Granducato d'Assia e del Reno, nipote prediletta della regina Vittoria del Regno Unito, sposò nel 1895 lo Zar Nicola II; fu fucilata, con il resto della sua famiglia, il 17 luglio 1918.Si tratta della migliore edizione collettiva di Voltaire pubblicata sotto la Restaurazione, e una delle poche illustrate, da una suite di Moreau il Giovane in possesso di Renouard, che vi fece annotazioni e aggiunte, molte delle quali gli furono comunicate da M. Clogenson. Compaiono qui per la prima volta "Les sentiments des Citoyens", articoli forniti da Voltaire alla Gazette littéraire, ecc... Ex libris 'Feodorovna' engraved on copper, glued on the inside covers. Occasional foxing, slight traces of wear, good condition.
Renouard edition of Voltaire's complete works, richly illustrated. Specimen belonged to the last Empress of Russia, Alexandra Feodorovna. The ex-libris, surmounted by a crown with the initials AL underneath, bears the motto "naught but the highest shall content my soul" on one ribbon and the name "Féodorovna" on another ribbon. Below the image are the initials of the engraver W.P.B. (William Phillips Barrett) and the date 1904.Alexandra Feodorovna, 1872-1918, princess of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine, favorite niece of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, married Tsar Nicholas II in 1895; she was she was shot, with the rest of her family, on 17 July 1918.It is the best collective edition of Voltaire published under the Restoration, and one of the few illustrated, from a suite of Moreau the Younger in the possession of Renouard, who made annotations and additions, many of which were communicated to him by M. Clogenson. Here appear for the first time "Les sentiments des Citoyens", articles supplied by Voltaire to the Gazette littéraire, etc... The last two volumes contain an analytical table established by Miger.
