A typed letter signed as "Ron" from President Ronald Reagan and addressed to notable celebrity columnist Army Archerd and his wife, Selma. 1p on Presidential letterhead, measuring 6.375" x 8.5", Washington, D.C., dated October 31, 1989. Within, Reagan congratulates the couple on their upcoming 20th wedding anniversary. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope with preprinted free frank and a full Letter of Authenticity from JSA. Expected letter fold present, with slight weathering to envelope. Else, very fine.
In part:
"Before you begin your travels abroad, Nancy and I want to extend our heartfelt best wishes and congratulations on your 20th Wedding Anniversary, November 15. We hope that this special day will be celebrated with every happiness, good cheer and warm memories. May the coming year bring more of the same and may you enjoy many happy returns of the day!"
Armand Andre Archerd (1922-2009) was an American columnist for "Variety" magazine for over fifty years before retiring his "Just for Variety" column in September 2005. In 1984, he was given a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in front of Mann's Chinese Theater, where he had emceed dozens of movie premieres.
