A special First Edition copy of "Georgia O'Keeffe: A Portrait" by Alfred Stieglitz. New York: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Viking Press, 1978. Folio. First Edition with an Introduction by O'Keeffe. With 51 photographic plates. The images were selected by O'Keeffe from the hundreds that her husband, Alfred Stieglitz, took of her over a period of about twenty years. Bound in tan cloth with gilt titling on the front cover and at the spine. Housed in a tan slipcase. Dampstaining to place 31. Sound binding, very fine overall. Light, expected wear to the slipcase.

Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986) and photographer Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946) first met in 1916, and he began photographing her shortly after their acquaintance began. The following year, Stieglitz began a portrait of his future wife, made up of a series of photographs that would portray the many aspects of a person. More than three hundred photographs were taken by Stieglitz, documenting their relationship. O'Keeffe once wrote: "Stieglitz had a very sharp eye for what he wanted to say with the camera. When I look over the photographs Stieglitz took of me--some of them more than sixty years ago--I wonder who that person is. It is as if in my one life I have lived many lives. If the person in the photographs were living in the world today, she would be quite a different person--but it doesn't matter--Stieglitz photographed her then."
