Tennessee Williams Signed Check Paying for a Limousine
Signed Check
Printed check No. 2723 signed by playwright Tennessee Williams, drawn on The Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, dated February 21, 1978. Boldly signed "Tennessee Williams". The check was a payment to the order of Classic Limousine in the amount of $107.30. With bank stamps and a PSA sticker on the verso. Faint edge wear. The stamps on verso slightly bleed through to the front, affecting the first part of Williams' signature. Boldly signed.
The year after this check was signed, Williams was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame.
Thomas Lanier Williams III (1911-1983), known by his pen name Tennessee Williams, was an American playwright and screenwriter. He achieved literary success seemingly overnight with "The Glass Menagerie" (1944) and went on to produce such iconic works as "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1947) and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1955). Williams' intensely emotional work was mostly autobiographical and typically wrestled with themes like truth versus illusion, sexuality, social class, violence, and Southern identity.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
