Description
Frank James
n.p., ca. 1930s
Frank James, Retired Outlaw, PSA Certified Authentic Photo
Photograph
A photograph of one-time desperado Frank James (1843-1915), the elder brother of the notorious Jesse James. Ca. 1930s. N.p. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as a Type IV photograph. The glossy sepia-colored photograph showing Frank James seated next to his hunting dog in a horse buggy is stamped "2" verso. Expected surface wear including isolated minor crazing. A small notch is located along the top edge. Else near fine. The photo measures 5.5" x 3.875" with the slab measuring 10.125" x 6.625" overall.
Frank James, along with younger brother Jesse James, was a member of the Missouri-based James-Younger gang. Historians estimate that Frank James was involved in at least four bank robberies during his twenty-one-year long career, but after his surrender to Missouri state officials in 1882, he served only about one year of jail time. Frank James?s later years were spent mostly in the West, where he did odd jobs including telegraph operating and fruit picking. This photograph suggests his criminal days were very much behind him.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
