Supreme Court
Washington, D.C., September 26, 1986
Supreme Court Invitation to Swear-In of Rehnquist and Scalia
Ticket/Invitation

Very rare invitation to the September 26, 1986 investiture ceremony of Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, one of the rare occasions where two Justices were sworn-in on the same day. 1p, 5.875" x 4.5", with an embossed gilt Supreme Court seal at top. Light wear, in near fine condition.

Earlier in the day at the White House, Scalia took the Constitutional Oath from retiring Chief Justice Warren Burger, and then later, at the investiture, the Judicial Oath from incoming Chief Justice William Rehnquist, who had been sworn-in only minutes before. Scalia is therefore the only Justice to take oaths from two different Chief Justices on the same day.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
