A Meissen figure of a Bulgarian, circa 1750

Modelled by J.J. Kaendler and P. Reinicke, carrying a staff in his right hand, wearing a fur-lined blue, hat, long white coat, purple tunic with blue sash, yellow trousers and red shoes, 23cm high, faint crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear edge of base (two fingers on left hand restored, both ends of his stick restored)

Based on pl. 82, Bulgare, in the Comte de Ferriol's 'Receuil de cent estampes représentant différentes nations du Levant. . . . ', Paris 1714, or the edition published in German by Christoph Weigel the Elder in Nuremberg in 1719.

Condition
The forefinger and thumb of his left hand are restored, and there is associated overpainting/spray residue to a larger part of the hand. Both ends of his stick are restored: there is a 1.5cm area of overpainting to the top end, and to the bottom end below his right little finger (there is some associated overpainting to his little finger. There are two very narrow flat chips (1cm and 0.5cm) along the bottom edge of his coat at the rear on his right side. There is a faint haircrack across the bottom of the base that extends (very faintly) up the back of the base to his left rear up to the bottom edge of his robe. There are typical minor chips to the leaves and flowers applied to the base.
