Item Details
Description
An untouched British Brown Bess Model 1777 musket from the Revolutionary War era. This musket, found in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is all original except that it was converted to percussion, probably for Confederate use during the Civil War. Most likely this musket was captured and used by an American Soldier during the Revolutionary War and brought home after the war. It may have seen use in the War of 1812 and then converted to percussion and was likely used as a Confederate musket in the Civil War. The percussion conversion is the type done by gunsmiths providing Confederate weapons in the Shenandoah Valley. There is a nice period iron repair at the wrist and the musket has great original patina. Finding a musket that has American attributes in untouched condition is rare. Standard brass furniture and lock engraved "TOWER" at tail and engraved with large crown over "GR" in center, along with crown over broad arrow British ownership mark. CONDITION: In "attic" condition, completely untouched and unaltered. Dark patinas throughout with some wear and marks from use. Barrel Length: 41 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: .75 Smoothbore FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Tower Model: Pattern 1777 Brown Bess Serial Number: NSN
