Description

An Edmund Culpeper Compound Monocular Microscope, English, ca. 1725,
With ebonized and turned wood ocular support (broken and and missing section), green leather draw tube with tooled gilt lining, grey rayskin outer tube, supported by three brass turned columns above a circular stage, missing concave mirror. On a circular turned wood base.
Contained in an oak pyramidal box, missing lower drawer. With Culpeper's trade label applied to back of interior with objector, spring stage.

Box dimensions: H: 18 3/8 x W: 7 1/4 x D: 6 3/4 in.

Exhibited at Dittrick Museum.

From the Estate of John A. Davidson, Jr. Proceeds to benefit the APL of Lorain County and the Dittrick Museum.

Condition

Case in poor condition. Lacking trim, original hinges replaced.
