Civil War patriotic "Tree of Liberty" cdv sized card (4" x 2.625") featuring a tree with 34 flags. Each flag has the initials of the 34 states in existence between 1861 and 1863. The reverse bears the handwritten inscription "To Miss Marvetta Laticia Martin, To Miss Marvetta Laticia Martin from Mr. Jacob H. Martin Near Murfreesboro Tenn Jan. the 12th /63. Jacob H Martin was most probably Corporal Jacob H Martin of Co. A 13th Ohio Volunteer Infantry - 13th OVI. Of the 4 Union soldiers with that exact name, only Corporal Martin of the 13th OVI was in a regiment that was near Murfreesboro, Tennessee at that time, having just fought at the Battle of Stone's River where it sustained 185 casualties. The 13th OVI was also heavily engaged at Shiloh, Chickamauga, and the Atlanta Campaign. In-house shipping is available.
