signed Johann Martin In Augsburg, octagonal dial with inset compass rose, hinged silvered latitude arc for 10-90 degrees and chapter ring, in original leather case with traces of decoration,
the dial 1 1/2in x 2 1/3in x 1 3/4in (4cm x 6cm x 4 1/2cm), the case 2in x 2 1/5in x 1/2in (5cm x 5 1/2cm x 1 1/3cm)

Johann Martin (1642-1721) initially worked as a clockmaker in Augsburg before specialising in portable sundials of high quality workmanship. He designed the crescent form of equinoctial sundial.
