Description
Tasteful presentation piece, consisting of a period World War II photo giving a chest-up view of an unnamed German paratrooper in uniform. Matted and framed. Expertly inset beneath the photo is a ‘Kreta’ (‘Crete’) cuff title, indicating this soldier participated in the invasion of Crete. Nicely wrapped around the two top corners are ribbons he earned, including the Iron Cross and the Romanian Crusade Against Communism Medal. 13.5 x 17 in. overall. The Battle of Crete was the first occasion where Fallschirmjager (German paratroopers) were used en masse. Though Germany suffered heavy losses initially they eventually managed to land reinforcements and overwhelm defensive positions on the island.
