- Louis Livingston, Union Lieutenant Colonel, 1 st Brigade, 1 st Division, XII Corps, New York 29 th Infantry Regiment - FROM FORT HENRY TO CORINTH by Force, M. F, New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1882., 1882.. Very good. Volume II in the series "Campaigns of the Civil War" - Octavo, dark blue cloth titled in gilt on the spine and in gilt with a vertical vignette in blind on the front cover. The binding is lightly rubbed and the spine is slightly darkened with the head lightly chipped. vii, [v] and 204 pages plus 4-page series catalog. Illustrated with full-page and textual black-and-white maps, including 2 plates. There is a small stain to the verso of the Contents page and the page edges are slightly darkened. Very good. From the library of Civil War veteran Louis Livingston, signed and dated 1882 by him on the title page. Livingston, a member of the notable Dutchess County, New York family, was a Captain and later Aide de Camp in the 1st Brigade, 1st Division of the XII Corps. He served under General Samuel Crawford and was breveted to Major for his service at Antietam and to Lieutenant Colonel for "conspicuous gallantry" at Gettysburg. From the town of Red Hook, Duchess County, he was commissioned Major, 29th New York Infantry on 21 May 1861, but did not muster, resigning on 2 July 1861. He was appointed Captain and Additional Aide de Camp, USV on 3 July 1862. He was still with General Crawford at least through Gettysburg in July 1863. He resigned his commission on 8 March 1864. He was honored by brevets 13 March 1865 to Major for Antietam and South Mountain, and Lieutenant Colonel for "conspicuous gallantry" at Gettysburg, PA.
