Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Eastern Arizona, Ancestral Pueblo/Anasazi culture, Puerco type, ca. 1050 to 1225 CE. A lovely example of the Puerco black-on-red pottery type, made during the early part of the Ancestral Puebloan ascendancy over the Four Corners region. The pitcher features an elaborate linear and abstract geometric motif across the apple-shaped body, tapered neck, and thin rim, all atop a russet ground that provides for a colorful presentation. Women traditionally were the potters of this ancient culture, and the patterns would have had personal and/or cultural symbolic meaning. Size: 5.5" L x 5.1" W x 5.2" H (14 cm x 13 cm x 13.2 cm)
