Description
LYNDON B. JOHNSON (1908-1973) Thirty-sixth President of the United States and creator of the "Great Society" social welfare programs. America's growing involvement in Vietnam led to his declining a renomination as president. Fine I.S.P. 14" x 11" b/w, a candid view of Johnson greeting Rep. Emanuel Celler at a White House function, inscribed: "To my friend Manny Celler L.B.J.". One letter in inscription is brushed, a few paperclip indents at bottom margin, else very good. Emanuel Celler (1888-1981) was one of the longest-serving U.S. Representatives, representing a New York district from 1923-73. He was a major backer of Johnson's civil rights legislation.
