Description
ROBERT ALBRO WWII COLLECTION: An unusual collector opportunity to own and learn the background of original G.I. acquired Third Reich military relics. (Please See LOTS 338 - 367 for entire Albro collection). All of the following items were sent home by Tec.5 Robert W. Albro, a member of Headquarters Battery 9th Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Division, who took part in the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Anzio, France and Germany. Being an orderly and a typist, many of his souvenirs were described in letters which he sent home. Fortunately, many of the original letters with envelopes are included with items that mention their acquisition.

Albro: (1) U.S. Sharpshooter Badge with 4 bars ("SHARPSHOOTER", "SUB MACHINE", "CARBINE" and "RIFLE" with a 1942 letter which includes a drawing of and comment that "...I will receive a medal as 'Marksman with the rifle'". (2) Lot of 3 letters from North Africa - one discusses picking up souvenirs on the battle field, one talks about making his tent more comfortable by buying straw mats from the Arabs (drawing enclosed), and the last includes an interesting drawing with a sign "HITLER DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE". (3)1944 11" x 8 1/8" E-mail, from France, with drawings of Army life. With the original drawing by Robert Albro. (4) Letter on 9th FA letterhead - from Germany dated "19 April 1945".
