In this letter to the city and the office of Elbingerode August of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel the Younger writes:



To ‘liebe getrewe’.



‘…Wir haben nicht unterlaßen, wegen des Zehendten zu Elbingerode, sowohl waß derselbe hiebevor getragen, alß ob die Ambtsäcker davon eximirt und befreyet, erkundigung einzuziehen. Waß nun Unser bediente zur Blanckenburg darauff berichtet, daß geben wir euch aus der beylage zuvernehmen, und stellen es zu eweren weitern nachdencken…‘



The city and the office Elbingerode, once belonging to the Counts of Stolberg, was gained by Braunschweig in 1653.



The letter is in fine condition. The paper is somewhat stained. A corner is cut off. The sheet is trimmed below. The sheet size is 25,0 x 19,6 cm



August of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel D. J. (1579-1666)

Augustus the Younger was born 1579 in Dannenberg. He was Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. He ruled from 1635 until his death in 1666 and was considered one of the most erudite princes of his time. Due to his immense interest in manuscripts and books, he built up an extensive collection and thus created in Wolfenbüttel Europe's largest library for its time, the ‘Herzog August Bibliothek’.
