Description
Big Bopper Scrapbook and ARMY Discharge Paper (1956-57). Before Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr. aka The Big Bopper enjoyed national success from his hit record "Chantilly Lace" in 1958, he worked as a DJ for KTRM in Beaumont, TX. He made history in May, 1957 with a "disc-a-thon" of 122 hours, 8 minutes of continuous broadcasting to break a record that had been set the previous year. Richardson played 1823 records over the six plus days and nights, breaking the record as Elvis sang "All Shook Up". During the event, the Bopper took only 5 minute breaks. The story in words and photos is captured in this remarkable scrapbook accompanied by an LOA from J. P. Richardson III. Also included here is a copy of the Bopper's ARMY discharge papers dated October 31, 1956.
