Model 1873 "Trapdoor" Springfield Carbine was the first standard-issued breech-loading rifle adopted by the United States Army. This piece would have been issued to the Cavalry as it is a carbine. This piece has a serialnumber of 447,***. The carbine was manufactured in 1887-1888 and would have been involved in the Montana Indian Wars. The piece is marked across the top of the breech “U.S. Model 1873”, The side of the carbine ismarked “U.S. Springfield.” The piece shows the original blue coloring across the breech and barrel and original wood. This is a rare wonderful American Collectible in original condition. This is in a 45-70 Gov't caliberand the breech, hammer, and trigger work flawlessly. This has the correct proof marks and stock marks.
