Description
Barbados, Taino culture, Ca 1000 to 1500 CE. The story of its find is almost as fascinating as the piece itself! Stone pestle in pecked stone with anthropomorphic adornment at the handle. For every 1000 of these that hits the market, I would venture a guess less than 5 are authentic. This example, and the accompanying pottery bowl were found together on the Island of Barbados in 1930 165 feet below sea level - while digging a well on a plantation. 4-1/2" H by 2-3/8" D. Bowl measures 4" H by 4" D.
