This work by the Japanese artist Kokuta Suda combines different graphic techniques. Shown is the figure of Kannon standing on a lotus pedestal in a niche, casting a shadow. The presentation of the Buddhist deity is executed in the process of xylography, which is a form of the woodcut, in which the wood is cut across the grain. The fund is applied in Indian ink wash with the finest shading. Further the artist used the technique of graphite frottage, a rubbing technique used to transfer the rough relief surfaces on the image carrier. The contours were drawn with charcoal.

The work is monogrammed lower right. The sheet is mounted on a support. In the upper area of the subject and at the lower left corners each with a small loss of paper and pale foxing, otherwise overall in good condition. The paper measures 53.2 x 39.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 69.5 x 56 cm. The original Japanese box frame shows slight signs of use.
