Description
Mexican Maskmaker, [20th Century]. "Mexican Mask [Traditional - 0036]. Fariseo Mask, from the Dance of the Tastoanes, Santa Cruz de las Huertas, State of Jalisco [Mexico]". Hand-painted, polychromed moulded leather sculpture with wood applications and natural animal hair. Early 1990s. A "danced" mask. Not made for the tourist trade or for sale, but created by the indigenous person to be used only in a ceremonial dance. Overall condition good. Provenance: From a highly important private collection, consisting of over 2,000 masks, Mexico City. Approx 8in high, 6in wide, 9in deep (200mm x 160mm x 240mm); with hair, approx 32in high, 13in wide, 16in deep (800mm x 340mm x 400mm). MO Inv #MA0038. [23314] |900| {K90}
