Description
Mexican Maskmaker, [20th Century]. "Mexican Mask [Traditional - 0066]. Diablo (Devil) Mask, Danced during Carnaval, State of Veracruz [Mexico]". Hand-painted, hand-carved polychromed natural wood sculpture with natural horns. 1970s. A "danced" mask. Not made for the tourist trade or for sale, but created by the indigenous person to be used only in a ceremonial dance. Overall condition good. Provenance: From a highly important private collection, consisting of over 2,000 masks, Mexico City. Approx. 10 1/4in high, 13in wide, 7 1/8in deep (260mm x 330mm x 180mm). MO Inv #0068.
