Description
Mexican Maskmaker, [20th Century]. "Mexican Mask [Traditional - 0082]. Fariseo Mask. From the Semana Santa Dance, Jesus Maria, State of Nayarit [Mexico]". Hand-painted paper-mâché (water-based paint) sculpture with natural fibers and cloth. 1970s. A "danced" mask. Not made for the tourist trade or for sale, but created by the indigenous person to be used only in a ceremonial dance. Overall condition good. Provenance: From a highly important private collection, consisting of over 2,000 masks, Mexico City. Approx. 14 1/4in high, 7 1/8in wide, 6 3/4in deep (360mm x 180mm x 170mm). MO Inv #0085.
