Description
Mexican Maskmaker, [20th Century]. "Mexican Mask [Traditional - 0086]. Manuel Mask. From the Dance of the Manueles, Mochitlan, State of Guerro [Mexico]". Hand-painted, hand-carved polychromed natural wood sculpture. 1980. A "danced" mask. Not made for the tourist trade or for sale, but created by the indigenous person to be used only in a ceremonial dance. Overall condition good. Provenance: From a highly important private collection, consisting of over 2,000 masks, Mexico City. Approx. 6 1/2in high, 6in wide, 3 1/2in deep (165mm x 152mm x 89mm) MO Inv #MA0089.
