JAPANESE PORCELAIN BY MAKUZU KOZAN, (1842-1916)
Studioware porcelain trumpet vase by Makuzu Kozan (Miyagawa Toranosuke, 1842-1916). 1890s. Expertly painted in shades of underglaze red and black with a four-claw writhing dragon encircling the waisted body, all on a powder pink glazed ground thinning towards the center and repeated on the flaring mouth. The recessed base with an underglaze blue cartouche; signed Dai Nihon Kozan-sei.
