Description
Mayan territories, probably El Salvador or Honduras, Ca 550 to 850 CE. Unusual pottery bowl of typical form, painted with very abstract monkeys. Each monkey is in deep brown pigment, with long tail, legs and arms, but head is very odd in its shape and placement - looking almost spiderlike. Red round balls separate each monkey. Interior with brown and red bands. 6-3/4" D.
