ALFRED M. GRUENTHER
(1899 - 1983) Four-star general after World War II, chief of staff of the Third Army, Fifth Army, and 15th Army Group, later served as the Supreme Allied Commander. Good association T.L.S. as Allied Supreme Commander on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Jan. 10, 1955 to Col. Robert C. Richardson III, fighter pilot and renowned expert in tactical nuclear warfare, NATO, and military long range planning. In part: "...I was particularly interested in your reference to Paul Nitze. If we have failed to sell our concept to him...our technique has been defective...I shall show your letter to General Norstad...so that we can get back on the rails...".File holes and a staple stain at top, folds, still very good. Paul Nitze was then serving as president of the Foreign Service Educational Foundation while concurrently serving as associate of the Washington Center of Foreign Policy Research and the School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University.
