(1782 - 1852) American lawyer and statesman who verbally jousted with Calhoun in the Senate and later supported Clay's compromise measures on slavery. Partly printed D.S. "Danl Webster" as Secretary of State, 1p. folio, Washington, June 25, 1852, a passport issued to Charles Tappan who was traveling "accompanied by his wife and children". Still attached to its original carrier, multiple visas stamped within. Some tears at folds, and general soiling.
