1p, measuring 7.75" x 8.625", Washington, D.C., dated June 29, 1842. An LS written to Philip R. Fendall, a US district attorney in Washington, regarding an application for the release of James Dean at the direction of the President. Boldly signed "Danl. Webster". Flattened folds from mailing & scattered toning.

Daniel Webster (1782-1852) was one of the most prominent lawyers of the 19th century and a statesman, who served as Secretary of State under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. Between 1814 and 1852 he argued over 200 cases before the Supreme Court.
