This impressive piece of folk art comprises the front half of the skull of an Arctic walrus, polished smooth to enhance the beautifully flecked texture of the bone, with an almost complete set of strange curling teeth. The main appeal, however, is the pair of 29 6/8 inch long tusks, each polished and scrimshawed with appealingly naive images of a polar bear and a walrus head, signed Pelewook. The tusks are detachable and each displays a fascinatingly textured root section within.
